William Ornament
This hand-painted resin ornament pays homage to "William," the unofficial mascot of The Met. Hang him on your tree or add him to your holiday decor for a touch of whimsy.
The original hippopotamus statuette (ca. 1961–1878 B.C.) in The Met collection demonstrates the Egyptian artist's appreciation for the natural world. Beneath its blue-green glaze, the body was painted with the outlines of river plants—just like this ornament—symbolizing the marshes in which the animal lived. Since its arrival at The Met in 1917, William has been a visitor favorite.
