William Morris Kennet Necklace
Size Information
The blue cast-glass blooms adorning this necklace reinterpret William Morris's (British, 1834–1896) Kennet (registered in 1883 and printed around 1917–23), a block-printed textile in The Met collection. This mesmerizing motif references rich 15th- and 16th-century Italian velvet designs as well as Art Nouveau, which would come to be defined by "whiplash" curves and sinuous lines. Though Morris frequently looked to the arts and crafts of the past, he was likewise a forerunner of modern design.
