Roman Acanthus Scrolls Reversible Unisex Wool Scarf
The acanthus branches scrolling across a pair of marble reliefs in The Met collection are elegantly translated onto this reversible unisex scarf. Made in Early Imperial Rome during the first half of the 1st century A.D., these joining acroteria—pedestals that support a statue or other type of ornamentation—once decorated the corner of a roof or high balustrade. They were positioned at right angles to each other so that the leaves would emanate from a central stalk where their ends meet.
