Mina'i Zigzag Rug
The great Seljuqs were a Turkish dynasty that fostered wide cultural exchange among diverse traditions in the region from Iran to Turkey from 1038 to 1307. In celebration of the exhibition Court and Cosmos: The Great Age of the Seljuqs at The Met, we have commissioned this beautiful rug.
Designed by Barbara Barran, its rich pattern was inspired by a precious mina’i stonepaste bottle (second half 12th–early 13th century) in The Met collection, which features raised and gilded patterns of foliate and zigzags.
Handmade in Nepal in a limited edition of 100, our exclusive rug is made of New Zealand-sourced wool and natural silk that has been hand-colored with vegetable dyes.
Only found at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
