Amen Picasso Naranja Canela Scented Candle
With warming notes of orange (naranja) and cinnamon (canela), Mediterranean fragrances evocative of Pablo Picasso's (Spanish, 1881–1973) summers in the South of France, the Naranja Canela Scented Candle features the artist's Figure (1927), created the year he met his lover and muse Marie-Thérèse Walter. Marie-Thérèse became a recurring subject in Picasso's work, her curvaceous form often resembling an ancient fertility object.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso's death, the sustainable Parisian maison Amen—in collaboration with the artist's granddaughter, art historian Diana Widmaier-Ruiz-Picasso—has unveiled a limited-edition collection of scented candles inspired by this titan of modern art, who spent the majority of his adult life in France. Presented in a porcelain jar with a reforested wood lid and encased in biodegradable packaging derived from mushrooms, each all-natural candle is poured by hand in Grasse, the French capital of perfumery, near Picasso's studio in Antibes.
