The Lewknor carpet was first commissioned in 1564 from Flemish weavers, by a member of the Lewknor family, an established English noble family. The original design includes strawberry plants, daisies, cowslip, roses, lilies, blueberries, and cherries. The carpet was passed down through the family for nearly four centuries.
